The Climate Ambition Summit 2020 will take place virtually from 1400-1900 GMT (0900-1400 ET) on Saturday 12 December 2020. Leaders were invited to make pre recorded statements outlining their new and ambitious commitments.

A special event to mark the five-year anniversary of the adoption of the Paris Agreement on climate change and raise ambition to deliver on the Agreement. Co-hosted by the United Nations, the United Kingdom and France in partnership with Chile and Italy, the Climate Ambition Summit will bring together global climate leaders – across governments, business and civil society – to ramp up climate ambition and help deliver on the Paris Agreement. The event, which will be virtual, will set the tone for increasing action and ambition as we move toward COP26.

The Summit seeks to convene Leaders ready to come forward with new, more ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), long-term strategies to net zero, post-2020 climate finance pledges and adaptation plans. The Summit will also demonstrate progress on 2020 commitments, shifting momentum towards ambition for 2021 and beyond, and providing clarity on the road to COP26.
The Summit will achieve these goals through an inclusive, one-day virtual event featuring voices from governments and non-state actors including civil society, business, academia, indigenous groups, young people, cities and regions.

The event will consist of a mix of speeches and creative film content. Following an Opening Ceremony including speeches from the Co-Convenors, Leaders’ pre-recorded video statements will be showcased as part of a three hour segment, interspersed with contributions from non-governmental voices.
